The Balancing Act(or)

Return to programs

"Finding your balance on and off stage"

These programs work with actors to help find the balance, rather then being a working actor "or" not.

In our sessions, actor(s) are guided through a series of Positive Mental Health and Wellbeing methods to help understand the motivators and drivers of the Self. With this greater understanding actors in training and professional actors have been able to deepen their connection to their values so they can leverage their strengths and inform their behaviours and actions. From these methods greater understanding of the Self allows the individual to manage their journey with greater awareness, passion and balance.

There is much more to the lives of actors as we are intelligent empathetic individuals who see and feel the world in a truly intelligent way. This can be overwhelming to manage, especially when we are overwhelmed with the various worlds we traverse that live internally and externally. Check out the program options below to see which is most suitable for you.

CREATIVE Collective

Working as an ensemble learning through experience and observation

The Positive Mentor offers The Creative Collective, a unique program run by a specialist who understands both the psychological demands of the stage and the practicalities of the rehearsal room (as a PMH Specialist, Educator, and Actor).

We don't just talk about wellbeing; we apply PMHW frameworks directly to your unit, script, or character exploration.

This results in:

  •  More profound and nuanced character development.

  • A stronger, more cohesive, and less conflict-prone ensemble.

  • Coaching through challenges to aid in the autonomous actor

  • Mental hygiene practices for difficult content

  • Actors who understand themselves better and can leverage their own mental health practices to sustain a long, healthy career.

By the end of this program, actors will gain the practical tools and profound insights required to elevate their craft, professional relationships, and mental resilience:

Peak Performance & Self-Mastery

  • Deepen Character Work by identifying and exploring self-motivations and leveraging personal dynamics within an ensemble context.

  • Boost Resilience through implementing strategies to manage challenges and stressors inherent to an actor's life.

  • Achieve Sustainable Practice by implementing systems to maintain a healthy work-life balance and avoid burnout.

  • Apply Conflict Management processes to manage both internal (self-doubt, stress) and external (rehearsal room) conflict effectively.

Ensemble & Communication Excellence

  • Strengthen Collaboration by mastering effective communication skills, clearly articulating wants and needs to fellow artists.

  • Cultivate Empathy by developing a deeper understanding of individual strengths, areas for growth, and seeking to truly understand others in the rehearsal room.

  • Establish Positive Connection through hands-on activities that immediately improve collaboration and communication in an artistic team.

The V.S.B.A Framework Advantage

  • Utilise the V.S.B.A Framework to enhance progress, reduce conflict, and gain a broader perspective on the actor's role within the community and global landscape.

  • Leverage V.S.B.A strategies to apply powerful, informed perspectives to the life of an actor, both on and off stage.

  • Implement M.S.N.B.A strategies to balance wellbeing on and off stage throughout training, rehearsals and performance
